The following is my political platform, as I delivered it to the Candidate Project, describing the platform I represent in my forthcoming run for a seat in the Arkansas House of Representatives. I will be running as an Independent, and choose to caucus with the Green Party of Arkansas. It is my observation that our current elected representatives have lost sight of what political office is for, and all but destroyed our civil liberties and standard of living through special favors to large businesses. I intend to work to return government to its proper state--a bureaucracy that treats its citizens equally, and works to protect their rights without bias. I am a firm believer in the welfare state, in that in promoting the health and well-being of our citizens are not "limitations" of rights, but instead are the bedrock on which freedom and prosperity stands. I also intend to work toward the revitalization of our production base stateside through legislation that opens greater possibility of workers' cooperatives (factories not managed by an absent board of directors, but instead owned and managed democratically by the employees that work there), which will result in higher wages, better working conditions, stable employment without fears of outsourcing, and an ability to work with the local community for the good of all concerned. In order to reduce the burden of providing benefits to employees, I stand against the pillaging of Social Security, and I would reduce the burden of employer-paid health insurance costs through the implementation of universal healthcare with a single-payer system. I am pro-choice, and I want to give the best chances of being good parents to those that do choose life. I am pro-marriage equality; it harms no other person if a couple decides to marry, regardless of their gender. I am pro-senior citizen, and it is my desire to allow for schooling at a reduced cost for those in their golden years that would expand their horizons. I believe that a society that allows for seniors and children to go unfed and without shelter or healthcare is in a sorry state indeed, and our state is especially remorseful as we have the resources to see to it that none ever fall victim to these atrocities, and that it is shameful that we let this persist despite the fact that we have more than enough wealth. I am for removing all military aid to Israel, instead offering only humanitarian aid to both Israel and Palestine so that they can resolve their own conflicts as equals. I am convinced that we have nothing to gain but trouble by supplying other countries with weapons, either as gifts or through trade I am for the demilitarization of our police, of our airports, and of our borders. I am also for reducing the profiteering of the military-industrial complex by removing the emergent class of "professional soldiers" that came about through the volunteer army and re-instating a draft, which will help to ensure that our military actions are truly justified, necessary, and have definable, quantifiable goals rather than instigating and fabricating reasons to wage war.. I am committed to ending the criminalization of blacks, Latinos, and the poor that is propagated through the unending, overfunded "wars" on drugs and crime. I am 100% opposed to privatization of prisons and juvenile detention centers, as this creates a situation where prolonged detention and more prisoners becomes desirable over rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Finally, I am pro-education. I stand against the privatization of schools through publicly funded charter schools and vouchers for private institutions, as both siphon wealth from the underfunded public schools system, which is then used to enrich the coffers of management companies that cherry-pick students in order to make themselves appear effective, while turning away students that are the most in need of extra care in education. As an educated, rational, independently-thinking public is the absolute foundation of democracy, I am also for restricting the excessive costs of public higher education, which all too often results in indentured servitude to the graduate rather than prosperity. It is for these reasons that I wish to run for office. These are attainable, and necessary goals for any nation, and as our society stands at the brink of financial ruin and with the structures built for a police state, I believe it is not only desirable to strive for these goals at this time, but an absolute moral and practical necessity. |
